What does it take to be a tutor?

Someone who cares about the success of a child and
has a willingness to ask questions.

Forward Scholars continually welcomes volunteers with a variety of schedules, availability, and levels of experience. No teaching experience is required — we provide training, materials, and ongoing support from experienced Site Coordinators.

Whether you're looking to tutor regularly or serve as a substitute, there's a role for you.

FAQs

If I have questions, who do I contact?
Please direct questions about the program to your Site Coordinator. Your Site Coordinator will reach out to appropriate school staff or Dr. Streiff-Stuessy if further action is needed.

What if I have a prior commitment on a tutoring day?
If you know at least one week in advance that you’ll be absent due to appointments, pre-planned events, vacations, etc., fill out the tutor absence form. This helps our Site Coordinators and Admin Assistant plan for your absence so all students can still receive tutoring. If the plans change or get cancelled, reach out to our Admin Assistant to update it by emailing admin@forwardscholars.org.

If you are entering an absence AFTER NOON on a Friday for the following week Monday or Tuesday, please keep in mind it will not be seen until Monday morning. Please reach out to your Site Coordinator as well as filling out this form.

What if I have an unplanned absence?
Reach out to your Site Coordinator directly if something urgent/unplanned comes up and you can no longer make it to tutoring! The sooner they know, the better so an alternate plan can be put in place.
